HPAT Group Classes that cover the whole exam

A structured, live online course through all three sections of the HPAT — taught in small groups by tutors who have sat the exam themselves. You get a method for every question type, practice under timed conditions, and feedback in the room rather than a recording you watch alone.

Structure is what most students are missing

The hardest part of preparing for the HPAT isn't any single question type — it's that there's no syllabus telling you what to do next. Students end up drifting between random practice papers, repeating what they're already good at and avoiding the section that's actually costing them marks. A group course fixes that: a fixed weekly slot, a route through all three sections in a sensible order, and someone marking your progress against the clock. You also get something you can't get from a textbook or a solo study plan — hearing how other applicants reason through the same question, and finding out that the approach you assumed was obvious isn't the only one.

The course

What the group course covers

Every section of the HPAT, taught as a method rather than a pile of practice questions.

🧩
Section 1

Logical Reasoning & Problem Solving

The longest section and the one most students under-time. We work through how to read a stimulus efficiently and pick the question apart before touching the options.

  • Data, graph and table interpretation
  • Deduction and elimination technique
  • Spotting the trap answer
  • Pacing so you finish the section
💬
Section 2

Interpersonal Understanding

The section students find most subjective — and the one where a consistent framework helps most. We work on reading emotional cues in a passage and answering as the exam expects, not as you'd answer in real life.

  • Identifying feeling, intent and perspective
  • Ranking answers by degree, not by gut
  • Common distractor patterns
  • Practice on full-length passages
🔷
Section 3

Non-verbal Reasoning

Highly trainable once you know what to look for. We drill the recurring pattern families so you recognise them on sight instead of solving each one from scratch.

  • Sequences, rotations and reflections
  • Next-in-series and middle-of-series
  • A checklist for when you're stuck
  • Speed drills under time pressure

Included with every group course

Curated study materials, worked examples and presentations to revise between classes — at no extra cost. You also get a free consultation call before you start, so we can tell you honestly whether the group course or one-to-one grinds is the better fit for where you are.

What a group class actually looks like

Live, on video, with a shared screen — so you see the reasoning as it happens and can interrupt when it doesn't land.

Taught live, never pre-recorded. Your tutor works through real HPAT-style questions on screen and annotates as they explain, so you follow the thinking rather than just the answer.

Questions welcome mid-class. Small groups mean you can stop the tutor at the exact step that lost you, which is the whole reason to attend live.

You attempt before you're shown. Classes are built around working questions yourself under time, then unpicking why the wrong options were tempting.

Practice set between classes. You leave each session with targeted questions, so the week between classes has a purpose.

Timed conditions from early on. Knowing how to do a question isn't the same as doing it in the time available — the course builds that in rather than saving it for the end.

Tutors who sat the exam. You're taught by current medical students who went through the HPAT and the CAO process recently, not by someone reading from a textbook.

Hi, I'm Brian

I'm a third-year medicine student at the University of Galway and one of the tutors here at HPATHelp. I sat the HPAT in 2024 and scored in the 95th percentile — so I know exactly what it takes to perform at the top level on exam day.

What I remember most about preparing is how unstructured it felt. There's no syllabus, no textbook that covers it properly, and no obvious sign that you're improving. That's the gap a group course closes: a clear route through all three sections, with someone in the room who can tell you whether your method is sound or whether you've just been lucky on easy questions.

Classes are kept small on purpose. If you're sitting quietly through a session, it isn't working — I'd much rather you interrupt at the step that lost you.

Common questions

HPAT group classes: FAQs

The questions we're asked most often about the group course.

How big are the group classes?

Classes are deliberately kept small, so that everyone can ask questions, work through problems out loud and get feedback from the tutor inside the session. If you want the exact group size for the course you're joining, ask when you reserve your place and we'll confirm it before you commit.

Are the classes online or in person?

All group classes are live online by video call with a shared screen. Nothing is pre-recorded, so you can ask questions as the tutor works through a problem. It also means you can join from anywhere in Ireland — or from London and the rest of the UK — without travelling.

What does the course cover?

All three sections of the HPAT: logical reasoning and problem solving, interpersonal understanding, and non-verbal reasoning. Each is broken down into the question types that actually appear, with a method for each, worked examples and practice under timed conditions.

How much do group classes cost?

Full term group courses start from €399, with study resources included. There's nothing to pay when you join the waitlist — we confirm dates, times and the exact price before you decide.

Should I do group classes or one-to-one grinds?

Group classes are the better starting point if you want structure, full coverage of all three sections, and a fixed weekly commitment that keeps you moving. One-to-one grinds suit students who already know which section is holding them back, or who need to work around an unpredictable timetable. Plenty of students do both.

What if I miss a class?

Let us know in advance and we'll make sure you get the material and practice questions from that session so you can catch up before the next one. Ask us about catch-up arrangements when you reserve your place.

When should I start?

Most students get the best results by starting several months before their test date — long enough to build technique across all three sections and then move on to full timed papers. If your sitting is sooner than that, tell us and we'll advise honestly on whether a course or targeted one-to-one sessions is the better use of the time you have.

Not sure which class to join?

Tell us when you're sitting the HPAT and which sections you're finding hardest, and we'll tell you honestly whether the group course is the right fit. Free consultation call included.
